Police arrested a 28-year-old Winston-Salem man on Friday and charged him with felony murder in the 2021 shooting death of Te’Ore Eugene Terry.

Police arrested Jaquane Juarre Fair of Seventh Street without incident. Fair was previously on probation for a misdemeanor charge of assault on a female.

The murder arrest stemmed from a Feb. 14, 2021 incident. That’s when police found the 35-year-old Terry, of Winston-Salem, lying facedown in a parking lot on Coliseum Drive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Terry was a shift manager at a CVS pharmacy in downtown Winston-Salem for more than 10 years. As a fixture in the downtown community, frequent visitors, residents and former CVS workers remembered Terry’s smile and kind words to anyone who walked through the store doors.

His death was mourned by his mother, Velma, and other siblings.

“He was a good guy,” Velma Terry told the Journal in 2021. “A wonderful son, big brother, uncle and nephew. He made sure he was connected to everybody in his family.”

“When you met him, you just immediately loved him,” said Susie Pollock.

Pollock, with others who knew and loved Terry, decided to organize a GoFundMe drive that resulted in a portrait of Terry, which was hung in the former CVS store.

James Hyatt, the CVS district manager, said before the unveiling of Terry’s portrait that he was a colleague who is “dearly missed by the customers and associates.”

“He would always yell, ‘Hey! young lady!’” Pollock recalled. When she saw the portrait that local artist Kim Thore created showing Terry’s face of exuberance, she knew that was the one to hang up.

“It was that smile who captured who he was,” Pollock said.

Fair was denied bond and is currently being held in the Forsyth County jail.

“We will never stop working for our community. We understand the frustration of loved ones with how long this investigation took,” Winston-Salem Police Chief William Penn said in a news release. “However, we are committed to not only arresting, but convicting those who commit violent crimes in our city. We thank you for your support as we continue to secure the hope and well-being of our community.”

“I am grateful for the time, effort, and energy that the Winston-Salem Police Department (WSPD) homicide detectives continued to put into this case throughout the years,” Forsyth County District Attorney Jim O’Neill said in the release. “Our ongoing collaborative effort allows us to pursue justice. We always strive to seek justice for all community members who have lost loved ones.”
